Ch Ch Ch Changes

4 06 2012

It’s been a while since I posted, but I’m going to try to be a bit better about posting updates. There is a lot that’s going on in my life right now, and most of it involves change.  I’ve been inspired by my awesome friend Kurt to be a bit more structured about my posts (also this will likely be the only way I can stick to updating).  Once a week I’ll post a general life update, three things I’ve learned, and a thing or things that made me happy that week. I’ll sometimes post other things too, but I’m going to try and stick to this schedule.

So here goes the update!

The first change is that I was accepted to the doctoral program at UNC!!  Come August I’ll be back in school learning all kinds of awesome stuff at the #2 school of public health in the country!  My mentor is awesome and I kind of can’t wait!

The second change is related to the first – I’m moving away from St Louis.  I’ve been here for 5 years, the longest I’ve lived anywhere other than Fairbanks.  I’ve bought a house, that I’m now selling, worked with amazing people, found a great church and small group, and some fantastic friends.  The boy is from here, so I’m happy we’ll have a good reason to come back here frequently for visits.

The third change is that I’m now engaged!  YAY!

Don’t call it a comeback

26 07 2011

Hello readers!

Welcome to the return of the blog.  Things in St Louis are very very hot right now!  It’s the second straight week of heat warnings and advisories.  Bleg!
Here’s an update on my life:

I started a new job in Dec and it’s been going great!  In Jan I survived snowmaggeden here  in STL, and as I previously posted, in Feb I went to the wizarding world of Harry Potter with McEdit (AWESOME).  March brought me to Atlanta to run a half marathon with my mom and April was packed with freeze-my-butt-off cheering on the cards at a baseball game,  running a half marathon in St Louis with my mom in the scorching heat, and celebrating my college girlfriends coming into town for a reunion. In May I saw Jason Aldean in concert, graduated, and had my birthday. In June, the boy and I went on a whirlwind trip of the AK (look for another post about how awesome that was!) and so far July has been spent enjoying modern conveniences like air conditioning, training for a triathlon, and wondering what in the world possessed me to sign up for a triathlon in Aug in St Louis.

I’m planning on posting a bit on my AK vacation, some on my adventures in St Louis and training, but the focus of my posts will likely be on my upcoming trip to Mozambique and the fundraising I’m doing for it.

These are my confessions

Hello loyal readers (all 5 of you)!  I’m sure that due to my lack of posting you’ve all been wondering if I’ve been eaten/attacked by a grizzly, like this dude or these peeps .  Perhaps you were concerned about my being stampeded by a moose on a bicycle like some unfortunate folks earlier this week.  Thankfully, none of that is true.  My confession is just that I’ve been pretty darn busy between working and adventuring to post regularly.  I’ll try to get my pics and posts of my trips to Denali National Park, hiking Mt. Healy, canoeing the Chena River, fishing for grayling, and driving the Denali Highway up by next week.  In the mean time: Alaska is awesome, and I’m alive and fantastic!
